Hey guys, how are we all? I’ve got another cheeky wee ProMo for you today!
I often receive emails from authors asking me to review their books, and although their book does sound incredibly interesting I’m just too busy to read them at that moment. I always feel horrible when this happens because I love finding new books and authors and sharing my opinions with all of you. Fortunately, ProMo is a place where I get to share with you some of these books which I don’t have time to read but would still like to give a little spotlight on my blog incase you think it sounds good and would like to pick it up.
Title: Glens Falls (Glens Falls #1)
Author: Malynda Schlegel
Published: 3rd December 2015
Publisher: Kindle Direct Publishing
Synopsis from Goodreads
Lives intermingle in a city where nothing stays the same.
Alexia Amherst is a writer who prefers to keep people at a safe distance. Her fraternal twin brother Wesley is lost about what to do with his life and harboring a devastating secret he can’t move on from. The two siblings live with their parents, Grant and Sophia, who are a little too attentive for their liking and who have taken up arguing as their latest hobby.
Breanne Emerson, Alexia’s best friend, is an artist and social butterfly who fears she’s going to end up like her mother Virginia who loves to drown her sorrows in booze and men.
Connor Spencer is the mysterious guy who lives alone in his own apartment, away from his family. Like Wesley, he is uncertain about his future, and like Alexia, he doesn’t let too many people close to him. His best friend Travis Jennings believes the key to all of life’s problems is women and endless entertainment.
Jared Clowes is the lonely boy next door to the Amhersts who is tired of going unnoticed and wants to finally start living a life outside of his head.
Join Alexia, Wesley, Breanne, Connor, Jared, and Travis as they struggle with college, jobs, friendship, love, growing up, their family’s lives, and each other.
About The Author (from Goodreads)
Malynda Schlegel is a college graduate who writes and reads books, all while drinking way too much chai tea. She is a rebel, a foodie, and a lover of darkness.
Q1. Let’s get to know you better, what’s a random fact about yourself?
A. Here’s a random fact: I’m apparently so mysterious that I can’t even think of a random fact about myself. Off to a great start, Malynda.
Q2. What made you want to become a writer?
A. My love of reading, mostly. All these stories, all these fictional worlds, fictional people, that writers came up with fascinated me, and I thought, “I want to do that, too!” But I’ve always been a writer. I actually wrote my first story when I was about 6 or 7. It’s about these two incredible turkeys who live on a farm and have to complete all these crazy tasks to win a gold medal. I think it’s even called The Two Incredible Turkeys. You want to read it now, huh? Find out if they win the medal? Well, you can’t, and I’m terribly sorry you have to miss out on a couple incredible turkeys.
Q3. For all of us non-writers, where do you find your inspiration from?
A. Listening to music. Scenes, characters, moments, play in my head while I’m listening to whatever song sparks something, and I jot it down for future writing sessions. Another inspiration is apparently showering. Lately, the best dialogue has hit me while I’m in the shower. And of course I have to jump out and get soap everywhere to write it down, because if I don’t write it down, it’s gone. Back and forth, shower, notebook, shower, notebook. The plus side is now I have more motivation to shower. (Hahaha…ha)
Q4. What’s the thing you most love and hate about writing?
A. There really isn’t anything I hate about writing. Even on bad writing days, I absolutely love it, and I’m so blessed to be able to write. By bad writing days, I mean those moments when the words just aren’t coming to me as easily as they usually do. Writing is by no means easy, but I can always tell when the flow is not as smooth as it was in the previous writing session, and it is very frustrating; however, I push through anyway, because that’s what writers do. We write. We have to write.
Q5. Who is your all-time favourite author and why?
A. I actually don’t have one. There are a lot of books I love, but I’m also a picky reader. There are a lot of authors I love, but I don’t always love every book they write, and, for me, I have to love the whole package in order for it to be considered a favorite.
Q6. How many books, novellas, short stories etc have you written? Tell us a little bit about them and where we can find them.
A. So far, I’ve written one poetry collection, one short story, and two novels. The poetry book is filled with a lot of sadness, angst, horror, love, weirdness, pretty much everything you can think of. The short story is called Living Like Brooklyn and it’s about this guy named Jake who just graduated from high school with his best friends Cole and Samantha, and he’s pretty much bored with his life and wants something different. Then he meets a girl named Brooklyn, and…things happen. My two novels are the first two in the Glens Falls series, Glens Falls: Book One & Glens Falls: Book Two, and it’s about a group of teens struggling with college, jobs, friendship, love, growing up, their family’s lives, and each other. You can find these books on Amazon.
Q7. What are you currently working on? What’s it about?
A. Right now, I’m working on the third book in the Glens Falls series. There are going to be four books total, for the four years of college. I can’t say anything about it because it’s the third in a series.
Q8. And finally, what is your favourite genre to write about and why?
A. Contemporary. I prefer to write about characters in the 18-25 age range, because this is the time of self-discovery, the time of mistakes, the time of new experiences. Everything is so heightened at this age, so raw, and it’s the best place for storytelling. There’s also a lot of romance in my books, because romance.
