Buddy Reading? Book Club?

Hey guys! I’ve been thinking a lot about how I can improve my blog (since my graphic design skills are terrible, I need to up my content to even it out haha). Whilst doing this, I’ve had a good old bunch of ideas, some of them are pretty rubbish, but others seem okay. I’m going to be telling you all about one of these (hopefully) okay ideas today!

Ps. Yes, that would be my exact reaction if you guys like this idea.

The title of this post is actually a little deceiving because I’m not starting a book club per say, but I would like to do something similar, if some of you are up for it 🙂 What I was thinking was a sort of buddy reading scenario on a bigger scale. So if there are a few of you who would like to read a book along with me, then we could all join a group chat (on Kik or Whatsapp etc, we can figure that out later!) and talk about our feels towards said book whilst and after we’ve read it.

This will be a totally chill thing and we’ll read at whatever pace suits us (a few chapters a night, maybe?). I just thought this would be a good way for us to get to know each other better and make some bookish friends 🙂

So I was thinking that, every so often, I’ll make a post and put a poll up to decide on which book I should read next, then whoever wants to read along with me can join the group chat. If none of you want to do this then it won’t happen, I just thought it would be fun!

Let me know in the comments if this is something you’d be willing to take part in, and if it is then I’ll get working on setting up the group chat and deciding upon a few books for the first poll (leave some book suggestions in the comments if you have any as well!). Also, if you don’t mind, please indicate your Kik or Wattsap preference below 🙂

Oh, one more thing! This isn’t going to be one of those book clubs where you’re locked in and feel obligated to take part in all the time. As I’ve said, this is completely chill so if one month you don’t like the book that’s been chosen or you’ve already read it, then you don’t have to take part 🙂

So… yeah, I guess that’s my post for today. I hope you guys are having a lovely day and let me know if this buddy reading situation sounds like something you’d be up for!

  1. From my experience it’s better not to specify the amount everyday? But talk to people and make a date from when you want it finished and can have a full spoiler discussion but while it’s going on you can discuss non-spoiler things. I would maybe be interested in doing it but I’ve got a lot of things going on in BooksAmino I’m trying to manage 😀

  2. I would love to be a part of this! I agree with the above comment though – sometimes having a certain amount due every day can be a lot to ask on some days. Maybe have a certain amount due every week, or a log of where everyone is so if there’s something you’re bursting at the seams about, you can share with someone else who’s where you’re at? Not sure if this is possible, but worth a mention! Either way, I’m in!

  3. I would love to be apart of this! None of my friends actually reads so the book community is the only place I can actually properly share my love of reading and books! ❤

  4. I don’t know if I read different books (since I’m younger) than you do, but if It’s a book, that I’m interested in reading, I would definitely be a part of this! 😊

      1. I read YA and Middle Grade, so I would love to be a part of this! I don’t have any friends who loves reading as much as I do, and I really need someone to talk about books with! ❤️

      1. I’m not so sure. I’m currently just getting my head around groups on Goodreads and figuring out how to effectively carry this out with the amount of interest the book club has received (I genuinely thought only like two people would want to take part haha). Any suggestions? 🙂

  5. Ooh ooh ooh yes, I wanna get in on this! I’d prefer using Whatsapp or maybe you could make a group on Goodreads? I’m pretty sure everyone is on GR in some fashion PLUS then you could get help “running” it by having moderators. Just a thought! 🙂

  6. This sounds like fun! I’ve never participated in a buddy read before but I’ve always wanted to. It’s only the matter of finding someone to read with me. Hahaha. I don’t use any of the apps you mentioned, but I’d go with anything everyone has decided on.

  7. I would love to! I don’t know about my schedule though, to how often I would be able to participate. I don’t have either of these apps, but a Goodreads group (saw it mentioned above) would be a great idea!

    1. I’m working on a Goodreads group as we speak, so don’t worry if you don’t have either of the apps – it was just a suggestion! Also, I have a crazy schedule too so don’t worry if you can’t participate sometimes, this buddy reading thing is going to be super chill 🙂

  8. I like this idea! It sounds chill and nice, meeting new people that way. I hope the kinks can be worked out well. I would love to try this out (^_^) I’ve never used Kik or Whatsapp, so I am unfamiliar with them. But I can figure it out if this happens.

    1. It will be super fun once I get everything up and running! And don’t worry, I’m starting a Goodreads group as well which should suit everyone better! Honestly, I wasn’t expecting as many people to want to take part haha, so a group chat on Kik or WhatsApp would probably get a bit too messy now anyway lol 🙂

      1. Awesome! A GR group sounds much better. I looked back at all the people interested and yeah. Group chat probably wouldn’t work. Can’t wait for more updates!

  9. I love this idea, especially since I have always been interested in doing a buddy read type thing. I also love the fact that you really want it to be chill because that’s always been my concern about book clubs and buddy reads.

      1. Exactly, I see buddy reading and book clubs as something fun and so you have people to have a discussion with other who are also reading the book. I don’t want to feel pressure to be at a certain point every day when I am already doing a balancing act with my free reading and review requests anyways.

I think both Whatsapp and Kik would work for discussions and while I don’t have either on my phone right now it wouldn’t be much work to add either.

      2. For sure! I think what I’m going to do is start a Goodreads group and every month have a ‘no spoiler’ discussion board’ and a ‘spoiler’ one for the books we’re reading, so no matter what point we’re at in the book we can have a chat about it ☺️ This way we won’t have any crazy deadlines each day or anything!

  10. I love this idea! I don’t really have anyone that I can share my passion for books with so this would be great! Is it still possible to join? Sorry, but I’m new to the blogging thing 😅
