Is it the 15th of May already?! Wow. If you don’t already know what Book Shuffle is, it’s a monthly meme I host here on my blog. The rules are pretty simple: I click shuffle on my iTunes and whichever song first appears, I need to pair it with a book and state why. If you’d like to participate or find out more about Book Shuffle, then you can check out the meme’s official page.
Right guys, this month’s randomly selected song is…
Why’d You Only Call Me When You’re High? by Arctic Monkeys
Ahhhhhhhhhh an Arctic Monkeys song, I am so excited!!! And this is one of my faves from their AM album. It’s just so catchy and mellow and a total 2am song. Anyway, if you haven’t heard it, then here’s some of the lyrics:
“Now it’s three in the morning and I’m trying to change your mind
Left you multiple missed calls and to my message you reply,
“Why’d you only call me when you’re high?
Hi, why’d you only call me when you’re high?”
Talking the same shite
I need a partner (hey)
Well, are you out tonight?
It’s harder and harder to get you to listen
More I get through the gears
Incapable of making alright decisions
And having bad ideas”
Now let’s get into the interesting part!
Alrightly… I’ve decided to pair this song with After by Anna Todd, and in particular, two characters from this series. So if you haven’t read the first book in this series then I suggest you avert your eyes, there will be spoilers ahead!
Some of you may be wondering why on earth I have paired this song with this book, but I will explain. I’ve always interpreted this song to be about a booty call, y’know? Only calling someone when you’re high or drunk to have a good time with. I feel like even the mood of this song sort of leans towards that interpretation. I could be wrong but that’s what this song reminds me of.
Now, onto the book. Hardin, before he falls in love with Tessa, is a total fuck boy. We hear about quite a few girls he’s had his way with, especially Molly. I kind of felt bad for Molly sometimes because of how much of an ass Hardin is at times toward her. Anyway, this song definitely reminds me of their “relationship”, if you can even call it that. He pretty much only uses her because she’s there and up for it.
Ps. I know this book was optioned for a movie but that was ages ago, do any of you know if there have been any developments in that department???
So there you have it, my third Book Shuffle! What book would you pair this song with and vice versa? I’d love to hear what you guys think in the comments. Thanks for reading!
