Top 5: Book Boyfriends

Hello lovelies! I’m not too fond of the Top 5 Wednesday theme for this week so I’ve decided to just pick a random Top 5 that I want to share with you. So, of course I’m going to be sharing with you my favourite literary babes!

This list is a short (emphasis on short) compilation of my favourite male characters that I wish were real because, well, they’re wonderful and real boys just can’t compare. Not all of these characters come from my favourite books but they’ve left enough of an impact on me to make this list. Oh, I also need to warn you that there may be some mild spoilers ahead so if you haven’t read the book which a certain character is from, avert your eyes! So without any further ado, here’s my list of Top 5 Book Boyfriends…

Side note: I’m hating on myself so hard after writing this list because three of the characters mentioned were created by Cassandra Clare. Smh Shannon XD

William Herondale

➰ The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare ➰

tumblr_o0g1crTBFL1s3hp12o2_1280Really, how could Will not make this list? He is by far my favourite literary character for so many wonderful reasons but I’ll try to limit them for this post haha. William is one of those classic bad-boy-but-not-really-a-bad-boy-but-still-has-a-crap-load-of-issues characters. Automatically these types are my favourite, but the fact that Will also lives in the 1800s makes me love him even more because I love that time period. He’s also caring, passionate, smart, witty, loyal and has such a tragic backstory that my heart breaks every time I think about it. In all honesty, I don’t think anyone will be able to knock Will from my number one spot – he’s everything I look for in a literal male (and real life guys but they will never be as perfect obvsss). Ugh, Will’s character is so complex and well written that if I ever meet Cassie Clare I will give her a high five for writing such a great freaking character that I adore endlessly ❤

Jace Wayland, Morgenstern, Lightwood, Herondale

➰ The Mortal Instruments by Cassandra Clare ➰

Cassandra-Jean-s-Tarot-Cards-Jace-Herondale-The-Angel-mortal-instruments-33525226-436-750Ah Jace. Another seriously messed up but seriously great character. If any of you have read the TMI series then you know what I’m talking about and you know that Jace has been through hell and back (literally mehe). One of the reasons why I love Jace is because of how much he reminds me of Will, for obvious reasons, and he always makes me smile. He never goes a few pages without cracking a joke or making a witty statement or taking the piss out of someone, and I really appreciate that about him. Jace is a cocky and confident buggar, but you can’t not love him! I’m excited to find out more about his life throughout the rest of the Shadowhunter Chronicles, especially with what happened at the end of Lady Midnight (you know what I’m talking about 😉 ).

James Carstairs

➰ The Infernal Devices by Cassandra Clare ➰

15922894111122616580Oh for God’s sake Shannon, another Shadowhunter?!?!? I hate how predictable I am, but oh well. Where to start with Jem? Honestly, I feel like he’s a seriously under appreciated character but he grew on me throughout TID and he definitely has a special place in my heart (right next to Will and Jace). Because of my equal love for Jem and Will, in Clockwork Prince I genuinely didn’t know who I wanted Tessa to end up with because they both deserve to fall in love and be happy – that has never happened to me before with characters in a love triangle. Will and Jem’s adoration for each other is another reason why I just couldn’t choose – ahh, this series still hurts my heart. Jem is sweet and kind and a total gentleman, and beautifully flawed and vulnerable. Cassandra Clare really knows how to write magnificent characters, triple high five!

A beautiful quote, that really sticks out to me, from TID sums up perfectly how I feel about both Will and Jem:

“Will has always been the brighter burning star, the one to catch attention — but Jem is a steady flame, unwavering and honest.”

Étienne St. Clair

Anna and the French Kiss by Stephanie Perkins

Aaron Johnson in his Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging stage is my fan pic for Étienne

He’s half-American, half-French and has an English accent; need I say more? As soon as I encountered St. Clair I had a total insta-love moment because, well, everyone likes St. Clair. He’s confident, friendly, really quite charming and has a pretty good squad. The numerous amount of sweet things he does for Anna throughout this book, like showing her around Paris and being there for her when that guy from back home and Bridgette were getting it on, just made me love him even more and root for him and Anna to get together (which took far too long for everyone’s liking). The one thing that irked me about St. Clair, even though it was kind of justified, is how he just wouldn’t break up with Ellie even though him and Anna clearly liked each other. Like seriously St. Clair, c’mon. But when him and Anna finally did get together I was jumping for joy and fangirling all over the place.

“I’m a little distracted with this English French American boy masterpiece.”

Park Sheridan

Eleanor and Park by Rainbow Rowell

eleanor_and_park_by_candy8496-d8e2nu3I would never have thought that a half-Korean, half-Irish, 15/16 year old boy who wears eyeliner would be my type, but yolo. Park is a bit nerdy and doesn’t really fit in at school but he’s not exactly a loner either. He’s just quite content to sit and read his comic books while listening to some music (sounds good to me). I don’t know if Park made that much of an impact on any of you but the reason why I love him so much is because of the way he treats Eleanor. Well, not exactly at the start of their relationship but you get my point. Park likes Eleanor even though she doesn’t really like herself and has low self-esteem (which is totally relatable for teenagers). He sticks up for her when she’s being bullied and accepts her for who she is, never trying to change her. He also stands up for himself to his dad and I freaking love him for that. It’s the same vice versa, Eleanor also accepts Park completely for who he is – they really are a perfect match for each other even though it’s slightly unexpected. Overall Park is just a super nice and sweet guy; I bet we all wish we had a Park in our lives (I do anyway).

Lol, I probably should have just named this my Top 5 Favourite Shadowhunter Characters XD Maybe I’ll do that list one day… Anyway, thank you so much for reading! Happy Wednesday 🙂

  1. Glad to see St. Clair on your list. He was the perfect guy apart from taking too long to make up his mind about Anna but he was really sweet though. Every time I think of him, I am reminded of Chuck Bass(Ed Westwick). I could even imagine him in skirts with the messed up hair. Great list 🙂

  2. Can we directly start reading the Infernal devices series or do I need to first read Mortal Instruments, in order to understand what’s happening in Infernal devices? I want to read something by Cassandra Clare. Planning to start with Infernal devices to see if I like her writing.

    1. You can read the Infernal Devices first but I’d suggest that you read Cassie’s books in publication order. So it goes: City of Bones, City of Ashes, City of Glass, Clockwork Angel, City of Heavenly Fire, Clockwork Prince, City of Lost Souls, Clockwork Princess, City of Heavenly Fire, Tales from the Shadowhunter Academy and then Lady Midnight. You can probably read the Bane Chronicles whenever you want too 🙂 I know that seems intimidating, but as I said, you can totally read the Infernal Devices first (it’s a fantastic series ☺️)

  3. YES. William Herondale is so close to being the perfect everything. I love everything about his character, especially his manner of speaking. I was in love from page one.
