Book Shuffle (Original Meme): March

Hello lovelies, I am excited to tell you that I have decided to do a thing. This ‘thing’ is a little meme that I like to call (drum roll)… Book Shuffle. What is Book Shuffle, you ask? Well, basically my mind is over active 24/7 and I came up with this idea at 2am to click the random shuffle button on my iTunes and whichever song it first lands on, I need to pick a book that relates to it in some way. It can relate to the song in any way basically; the tone, the lyrics reflecting something which actually happens in the book, a character’s personality, the development of a relationship – pretty much anything.

I’m not too sure if this has ever been done before but it’s something that I’d like to do once a month on this blog, just for fun. So, every 15th of the month (because this date’s normally the halfway point for most months) I’ll put my iTunes on shuffle and see what song I get. This might turn out to be a completely rubbish meme and if it does, lol, sorry.

If any of you decide to try this on your blog then mention me in it so I can come and see what song you get. Also, check out my official page for this meme to find out more details if you want to participate! This could even be turned into a tag, if that’s something you’d be into 🙂 Time to find out which randomly chosen song I get this month…

And the winner is… Teenage Kicks by The Undertones

I’m so glad I got this song as my first pick because 1) it is awesome, 2) it reminds me so much of my high school days, 3) I haven’t listened to it in eons and 4) I have the perfect book to go along with this song!

First of all, in case you haven’t heard of this song, here is a little excerpt from it:

“A teenage dream’s so hard to beat
Every time she walks down the street
Another girl in the neighbourhood
Wish she was mine, she looks so good

I wanna hold her, wanna hold her tight
Get teenage kicks right through the night

I’m gonna call her on the telephone
Have her over cos I’m all alone
I need excitement, oh I need it bad
And it’s the best I’ve ever had”

I have decided to pair this song with The Duff by Kody Keplinger. More specifically, Wesley Rush’s character. There will be spoilers ahead for this book, you have been warned!

If you’ve read this book or seen the movie then you already know that Wes is a total player and he “doesn’t chase girls”. However, if you’ve actually read the book, then you’ll know that him and Bianca end up hooking up and having loads of one night stands to escape from their problems before they both end up catching the feels (oh god, the dreaded feels!). I think the actual lyrics of this song reflect quite strongly what was going on in Wes’s head during the whole ‘friends/enemies with benefits’ stage of the relationship – maybe even just on the brink of realising how much he actually liked Bianca. Also, as I said before, this song reminds me of high school so it has the perfect feel for this book.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book, especially watching Wes and Bianca’s relationship grow, along with their actual character development. The movie on the other hand.. meh. I had high hopes for it, and it’s not actually a bad movie, but since I read the book first I hated how many changes had been made from the original story. Although the book is hilarious, it also has its fair share of serious and meaningful moments, whereas the movie was pretty much only a comedy.

Anyway, enough moaning about inadequate book to movie adaptations! Thank you so much for reading and comment telling me which book you would pair with this song 🙂

S xo
